My First Christmas in the PHILIPPINES

Image
My First Christmas in the Philippines - Noche Buena 2019 It was 11:50 PM on Christmas Eve, and we hopped on the bike and headed to Marilous cousin's house for Noche Buena (Christmas Eve). We arrived to a lechon pig, and all sorts of filipino dishes. The night (morning) was filled with karaoke, dancing, games, and gift exchanges. Next thing I knew, I was witnessing a sunrise. We had partied all night long! Merry Christmas from the Philippines.

Hiking in the Philippines - Talisayan’s Sipaka Heights - NORTHERN MINDANAO

Image
When you're looking for things to do in Northern Mindanao, an awesome day hike will lead you up 500 meters/ 1640 Feet elevation of Sipaka Heights, located in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental, Philippines. We were staying with my brother-in-laws mother that lived half way up Poblacion on the road leading to the summit of Sipaka Heights. Talisayan’s Sipaka Heights feature a breathtaking scenery of the province from the 500 meter elevation hill. The 14 stations of the cross at Sipaka is a must for the “Pamalandong sa Sipaka (meditation/contemplating). Affordable Romantic Restaurant in Ubud, Bali - Café du Monyet

Image
Quaint, romantic, hidden gem, beautiful decor, amazing views, great food, and friendly staff! The place is set up with a tasteful french style interior and has a beautiful view. So, let's say it's Instagram worthy. This little hidden gem is located in Ubud central, and is a perfect spot to have a romantic breakfast, lunch or dinner. We stopped in for lunch and the food was great, and the portions were perfect. While walking the streets of Ubud, Bali we stumbled upon this amazing restaurant, peeked inside and knew we had to experience this place. After a long day of shopping, we sat down to a couple of cold fruit drinks, and an amazing lunch. We highly recommend Café du Monyet for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Super romantic. Building a Beach House in the Philippines Part 11

Image
We're back at it again! My brother-in-law was able to find some carpenters to continue working for our beach house as our previous carpenter was advised not to work for awhile due to medical issue. This is a blessing in disguise because our new carpenters are able to work on continuous job, rather than just weekends. Last week, they continued working what was left off and finished off the upper part of the walls with holed "amakan". First floor was also being worked in progress, and we are aiming for this week for everything to be finished - from installation of the main door, entrance door to the second floor, cemented first floor, native window for our bedroom, etc. Also, Marilou and I planted some plants like macarthur plam tree, heliconia tree, and others. We have more flowers and plants ready to be planted when our house is ready. KLOOK - Ubud Highlights Day Trip $7.49 PP | BALI

Image
While doing research for our upcoming trip to UBUD  in Bali, we checked out many KLOOK deals and came across "Ubud Highlights Sightseeing Shuttle" for $7.49 PP. The trip was described as a shared shuttle to different spots around UBUD - spots we wanted to see! Our driver Agung was great! He messaged me on whatsapp the night before our scheduled tour and asked us where we'd like him to pick us up in Ubud. We thought the tour began at the Monkey Forest, so we suggested there. I think he would have picked us up at our hotel if I requested for it. Our day started around 10AM and ended around 6PM.  Tegenungan Waterfall - Admission 20K IDR PP Sacred Monkey Forest - Admission  80K IDR PP LUNCH - Bebek Teba Sari Restaurant - APPROX 100K PP Alas Harum -  Tegalalang Rice Terrace - FREE (Swing extra fee) Ubud Art Market - FREE Our driver was super flexible and gave us around one hour and half to two hours at each location. And at the end of the day, he dropped ...

Building a Beach House in the Philippines Part 10

Image
We had a game plan, but accidents happen. Our carpenter had an accident at his regular job that ended him up at the hospital. The doctor required him to rest for at least a month that hinders him to continue working for our beach house for the time being.  We do have a backup plan for a different carpenter, and we are hoping he can start sometime this week. We had 200 hollow blocks made from the four extra sacks of cement that needed to be used before they turn into rocks. We also had approximately 3-4 yards of gravel delivered (100 sacks) by 5 men. We hope to have some better progress for you in our next beach house upload, and will wait to upload when there is significant changes in the future. We really appreciate your support and for following along!

Road Trip to Buenavista | Christmas Display | PHILIPPINES 2019

Image
We were invited by our good YouTube friends we met here in Butuan City, Philippines to take a road trip up to Buenavista to check out the city's Christmas display! A Fili and some Joe YouTube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbNI_uR9I3Ql5bdBTaHvGyw When we arrived in Buenavista, they immediately took us to Andi's Snack Break Delight for what is being said as Agusan's best Halo-Halo. After slurping down every last drop of the amazing halo-halo, we headed for the Christmas light display! We walked maybe a quarter mile down a street off the main highway lined with Christmas lights. It was like a tunnel and come to find out, we could have rode down to the entrance, but it was a great way to walk off the halo-halo. We came upon a magical light display that put the spirit of Christmas back into my heart. It hasn't really felt to much like Christmas around here with the weather around 80 degrees every day. So it was a great place to come. I tried I saw (BBQ...

VISIT Sacred Monkey Forest | UBUD, BALI

Image
If and when you go to Bali, Indonesia, make sure the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud is part of your itinerary. I could have spent the whole day there interacting with the roaming monkeys all over the park. The setting is amazing in a tropical forest of massive trees and sculptures abound. There are three temples within the forest which date back to the 14th century.  Our visit was again part of a KLOOK tour (Ubud Highlights Sightseeing Shuttle) which included a stop to the Sacred Monkey Forest. The tour cost was $7.45 USD per person and included a whole day of sites in UBUD. We had to pay our own admissions and lunch, but it was just the two of us on this tour (it was advertised as shared shuttle).  BOOK TOUR HERE:  http://bit.ly/UBUDhighlights      Like many boys growing up, I had always been fascinated with monkeys. I have always wanted to interact and to hold one, and by visiting the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, my dreams became reality. Thanks f...

Building a Beach House in the Philippines Part 9

Image
Part 9 of our beach house build in the Philippines. In this episode we find the whole house has been sided with amakan and varnished with a natural coat. The railings are 95% completed and pruning of trees for a better view have started. We will be buying more material this week, so weather permitting we should begin more work on our beach house. BALI Instagram Tour (FULL with Stops) - KLOOK Review 2019

Image
Our day started at 5AM when we met our tour guides, Saka and Ariska, in our hotel lobby. We headed out to stop number one which was at Candidasa Beach in East Bali to catch the sunrise. We hopped out of the car with our cellphones and cameras, unaware that they even provided a camera to take pictures of our day! Our second stop was the amazing Gate of Heaven in the hills of Mount Lempuyang. There were so many cars parked around the area that I was wondering if we could even get any pictures. The hike up to the temple was pretty steep (wear good shoes), so prepare for an uphill climb. Everyone was required to wear a sarong and women had to cover their shoulders. Marilou was wearing sleeveless so she covered her shoulders with a scarf. We had brought our own sarongs, but you can rent them there. Our photographer got us a number for the  queue of other tourists waiting for their pictures taken at the gate. While we waited for our turn, Ariska took photos of us at other point...
