Happy Thanksgiving From The PHILIPPINES 2019

Image
What are you thankful for? We are so thankful for our families, friends, life, shelter, and especially God for making everything possible. It is sad to not be with our family this year during the holidays, but we are also so thankful for all the support they have given us on our new journey. We pray that everyone has a great, safe, and happy Thanksgiving this year! We thought it would be cool to send a wish to all our friends and family throughout the world from the Balangay Boat Building site here in Butuan City. "In the beginning there was no Philippines but there was Butuan.” This is not an empty boast but a definitive declaration that resonates deeply into the annals of Philippine history. As early as the 4th Century, formal settlements along the banks of Agusan River and the valleys that surrounded it were already thriving. The strategic location of Butuan shielded it from marauding pirates, tropical storms, and raging floods. Naturally gifted and knowledgeable and hig...

Cleaning Sea Shell Bounty with Muriatic Acid

Image
How we cleaned our sea shell bounty with muriatic acid and water. With our recent travels to a few beautiful beaches, we have collected some great shells. Some of the shells and coral we found that washed up to the shore looked great but needed some cleaning. After doing some YouTube researches, we found that muriatic acid was a great way to make the colors pop. We used a mixture of 3 parts water to 1 part muriatic acid we picked up from the local grocery store. I have to say, it worked! The shells look much better and the colors are now more vibrant. The conch shells we had were from some fishermen passing by in Talisay, Philippines. We saved the shells after we harvested the meat out from them.

Return to Camiguin Island PHILIPPINES - VLOG DAY 2, 3, and 4

Image
We continue our days on Camiguin by visiting a few of the tourist destinations Camiguin has to offer. Three of us hopped on our rental scooter and began our 86KM tour around the island. Our first stop was the beautiful White Island ( https://youtu.be/Jq4uGyJW-oA ). We continued for quick stops at Katibawasan Falls and the Sunken Cemetery. We started this day at 0700 and ended 1800 HRS. I did get stopped at a LTO checkpoint, but just showed my USA license and was waved through. Day 3 we went to Mantigue Island ( https://youtu.be/JNxz8w_cId4 ) This place was spectacular and I hope that if and when you visit Camiguin you will get a chance to visit paradise! We spent approx. four hours on Mantigue, and then headed back. We spent the rest of the day picking mangoes, filling water tanks, relaxing, and ending the day with a sunset swim and snorkel. Our final day in Camiguin was pretty special as we got to witness the beginning of the Lanzones Festival ( https://youtu.be/sRN2wKBB3LY )...

Building a Beach House in the Philippines Part 8

Part 8 of our beach house build in the Philippines. In this episode, we get more material to keep moving forward on the build! 1x2x6, 1/2x2x6 and more amakan for the siding. The carpenters got straight to work Sunday morning cutting, fitting, and nailing the amakan into place. We even planted our first coconut tree!

Return to Camiguin Island PHILIPPINES - VLOG DAY 1

Image
The highlight of this trip to Camiguin Island was staying with a local family, and experiencing a ton of culture. This was our second trip to Camiguin after eleven years. The Island is a special place for me, as for now it's my favorite place in the Philippines so far. Our day started at 0145 hours on October 18, 2019. On this trip we took Marilou's sister, her husband, and our nephew. We caught the bus at the bus terminal behind Robinson's Mall, and rode about 3.5 hours to Balingoan to catch the ferry to Camiguin. From wandering around a lanzones forest to swimming in the sea, to collecting banana hearts on a banana plantation, to watching the kids practice for the upcoming lanzones festival. Our first day was packed. Thanks for watching! We spend hours editing, so a coffee is always accepted. Foreigners Helping Mindanao Earthquake Victims

Image
Please donate to help with relief efforts of the Mindanao Earthquakes https://www.redcross.org.ph/ According to an article written in 2012, more than 3.5 million foreigners, both visitors and expatriates entered the Philippines according to the Bureau of Immigration. Imagine if each foreigner or visitor gave P50/$1. How many lives could we help? How many communities could we save? Please consider making a small donation to your local Red Cross. With the recent release of @becomingfilipino videos of the devastation and realities of the earthquakes that recently rocked the southern mindanao area ( https://youtu.be/lchQTIdquTk ), I was watching and wishing we could be there too to help out the locals in any way. We really appreciate what Kyle (Kulas) is doing with the people by reporting, volunteering, and always lifting spirits of anyone he meets. After watching his reports, it inspired us to head to the local Red Cross office here in Butuan City. We set out in the morning and ma...
