Butuan City to Cebu City by Ferry – Our Overnight Sea Journey on Cokaliong Shipping Lines
Traveling from Butuan City to Cebu City by ferry was such an amazing and relaxing experience! Instead of flying, we decided to take the Cokaliong Shipping Lines overnight ferry — and it turned out to be one of our favorite travel experiences in the Philippines.
🏨 Checking Out and Starting the Journey
We checked out of GoHotel Butuan, conveniently located at Robinsons Mall, and headed to the bus terminal just behind the mall. The first leg of our trip was getting to Nasipit Port, which is about an hour away.
The bus ride from Butuan to Nasipit only cost ₱55 — less than one U.S. dollar! It’s an easy and comfortable trip, and the buses run frequently throughout the day.
🛺 From Nasipit Bus Terminal to the Port
When we arrived at the Nasipit bus terminal, we caught a tricycle taxi straight to the port. While we were on our way, a porter literally ran after our tricycle, eager to help us with our luggage.
He ended up carrying all three of our bags by himself, guiding us through the port, and assisting us all the way to check-in. Despite my offer to help, he insisted on handling everything — such incredible strength and dedication! He asked for ₱250, but we gave him ₱500 as a thank-you for his hard work.
🛏️ Ferry Room Tour & Travel Tips
Once we boarded the Cokaliong ferry, we checked into our private room and filmed a short room tour. The cabins are clean, air-conditioned, and surprisingly comfortable for an overnight trip.
After settling in, we relaxed and enjoyed a light dinner we brought with us. That’s one of our top tips: bring your own food and water.
There’s also a small sari-sari store onboard where you can buy cup noodles, snacks, drinks, and coffee — handy if you forget to pack something.
🌅 Sunrise and Arrival in Cebu
I woke up around 4:30 AM to catch the sunrise over the sea — a peaceful and unforgettable sight. Before we knew it, around 7:30 AM, we were pulling into Cebu Port.
The whole trip was smooth, quiet, and a great way to travel between islands. It’s slower than flying, but you get to relax, sleep, and wake up in another city — no airport stress, no rush.
⚓ Why We Recommend It
If you’re traveling through the Visayas, taking a ferry between Butuan and Cebu is definitely worth trying. It’s affordable, comfortable, and a little adventure all on its own!
