DJI Mavic Pro Drone Crash | Sunken Cemetery - Camiguin Island, PHILIPPINES

Image
ROOKIE and EXPENSIVE MISTAKE. I have had my DJI Mavic Pro for about 3 years now, and I've probably only flown about 30 times (because I didn't want to break it...lol). Every time I took it up,  it was a learning experience for me. Sometimes the video was way off, sometimes I lost sight, but this time I lost her altogether...a rookie mistake. It was way too windy. However, a few weeks earlier while visiting Naked Island in Siargao Island, I saw someone fly their drone in what I thought was extreme winds, and decided NOT to fly mine, due to the wind. I thought to myself if this guy can fly at Naked Island, I can surely fly here at The Sunken Cemetery! How I was wrong! While I don't have any footage to show of my flight, I did have my cache settings turned on and I do have a cache file on my cell phone that I use when flying; however, I can't open the file. (2020_03_03_13_33_30.mp4). I've tried using the DJI GO 4 app and clicked on editor, but it still will not open...

Exploring and Surfing Cloud 9 - Siargao Island - PHILIPPINES

Image
I can officially say I surfed Cloud 9 in the PHILIPPINES! Or at least real close to Cloud 9. The surf spot was actually named Jacking Horse which is a beginners spot right next to Cloud 9. Either way I was in the same vicinity and I'm going to put a check mark next to "Surf Cloud 9, Philippines" We arrived around 10AM during low tide, so there were no surfers surfing the real Cloud 9, so we paid ₱50 ($1) to walk out to the observation deck where they hold many surfing competitions. We then walked to the right side of the beach towards some of the restaurants and shops. We met an instructor and talked for a bit. She told me that the surf would be better after 3PM. So we came back and I took a lesson and went out with the instructor for ₱500 ($10) for one hour of amazing good time hoping back on the surf board. (Don't forget to tip your instructors!). I will never forget this most excellent day.

Maasin River Jungle River Experience - SIARGAO ISLAND - PHILIPPINES

Image
What a great inexpensive excursion to do while visiting Siargao Island in the Philippines! The river boat ride was smooth and we had two great guides that were very patient with us as we took videos and pictures along the way. It felt like the "Jungle Cruise" ride at Disneyland, California! GOOGLE MAPS COORDINATES: https://goo.gl/maps/SSVvn72PVQNd2afT8 The ride cost us ₱500 / $10 for the three of us, and the tour took about one hour and thirty minutes. Again, the guides took a ton of pictures of us and stopped along the way, so the ₱500 did not include their tip at the end. There is a rope swing to try off of a coconut tree  along the route and we were planning on stopping to try it on the way back, but the line was getting too long as we wanted to continue exploring the island, so we passed this time. #MaasinRiver #SiargaoIsland #Philippines

Beach House Budget - PHILIPPINES

Image
March 1, 2020 BUDGET AND MATERIALS FOR THE BEACH HOUSE By Marilou McConnell We started building our beach house on the 25th of August. The week before it started, we had to cut down three coconut trees that were on the site. We had to pay the owners of the trees for 500.00php (10.00usd) each tree, a total of 1,500php (30.00usd), and had to pay 3,000php (60.00usd) total fee to cut each tree (1,000php charge each tree x 3 trees). BUILD SITE The next step was to purchase bamboo for our fence. We wanted it all native from the get-go and so using bamboo for the fence is such a no-brainer. We are very lucky to have a brother-in-law who, not only knows where to get the bamboo poles, but also knows how to make the fence! We spent only 5,000.00php (100usd) for the bamboo poles.  We had wood sheets from the coconut trees that we purchased and cut down, however, we did not use them because we were told they are not durable enough to use for our beach house. We wou...
